Bush Tucker Garden

Students at the Marist Learning Zone (MLZ) have taken the lead in designing, planting, and caring for a new bush tucker garden.

This vibrant space celebrates culture, sustainability, and community connection. In partnership with the Jarara Cultural Centre and local Darug nursery Muru Mittigar, students helped plan the garden alongside the creation of the AKC Yarning Circle, learning about native plants and their traditional significance along the way.

The garden features a diverse collection of native edible and medicinal species, including Syzygium ‘Resilience’, Apple Berry, Native Thyme, Native Oregano, Midgen Berry, Finger Lime, River Mint, Native Leek, Native Parsnip, Pig Face, and Lilly Pillies. Each plant tells a story of Country—its flavours, resilience, and the wisdom of those who have cared for it across generations.

Through their ongoing upkeep and care, MLZ students are helping the garden flourish as a living classroom and gathering space—one that will continue to grow, teach, and nourish the entire Diocesan community for years to come.
